Traveling out of Singapore with a dog

Updated: May 12, 2022

Donut loved exploring Changi! The airport was pet friendly enough. We were able to walk around with Donut in a bag (hence her photo on the right).

Exporting a dog out of Singapore is really easy, getting back to Singapore is another story (check out our blog for entering Singapore).

To leave Singapore with your dog, these are the following requirements:

  1. Export License: The license is valid for 30 days and you may apply for it online through the Go Business Licensing Portal. There is a regular processing time (3-4 days if I remember correctly) or an express processing (1 day) for a more expensive fee.

  2. Vet Health Certificate: The validity of the health certificate depends on your destination country so make sure you check that. Some countries also have a specific form that vets need to fill out while other countries only allow a government vet to issue the health certificate. Read the importing country's requirements carefully.

  3. Pre-export Inspection: Some countries require pre-export inspection. If your destination country requires this, you will need to make an appointment through iFAST. It is recommended that the inspection happens at least 4 hours before departure.

It took us only a week to process all these requirements. We certainly did not feel like an agent was necessary, especially because all license applications can be done online. Do ensure that you have an import permit for your destination country, requirements vary.

Donut was extremely sleepy and happy on her first flight. We were so nervous but she made it out okay. This is her relaxing in the SQ Lounge in Changi!
